TOSHIBA LAUNCHES THE e-STUDIO™523/603/723/853 MULTIFUNCTION SERIES TO BUSINESSES

Windows Vista Support, XPS Print Support and Enhanced Security Integrated into Proven High-Volume Document Imaging Family
Jan 23, 2008

Toshiba raised the bar for monochrome multifunction products (MFPs) today by announcing the new and improved e-STUDIO™523/603/723/853 and e-STUDIO™523T/603T/723T series nationwide. Built on the robust platform of the popular e-STUDIO520/600/720/850 family of MFPs, the new line of high-speed, large-volume MFPs feature expanded security elements and encryption, support for the Microsoft® Windows Vista™ operating system and enhanced XPS printing options. The e-STUDIO523/603/723/853 series incorporates exceptional image quality, high-speed printing and multiple paper source options, making it the perfect choice for high-volume production environments.

The e-STUDIO523T/603T/723T family shares all the same product features as the e-STUDIO523/603/723/853 series, with the added convenience of tandem 1,250-sheet letter paper cartridges, effectively doubling the printing output capacity between paper refills in the same MFP footprint.

“Toshiba’s e-STUDIO523/603/723/853 and their ‘T’ counterparts are built upon a proven productivity and reliability platform that our large workgroup monochrome MFPs have become renown for,” said Joe Contreras, director, Product and Solutions Marketing, TABS. “By incorporating Windows Vista support and extended security into these fast, efficient and highly versatile machines, we are empowering businesses with the ability to meet all their high-volume print needs.”

Proven Technology, Outstanding Image Quality and Impressive Performance

The e-STUDIO523/603/723 and e-STUDIO523T/603T/723T MFPs feature a high-speed, single-beam laser-imaging unit, while the e-STUDIO853 uses a dual laser-beam design, delivering pin-point print accuracy across the family of MFPs for every single copy. An 8-bit scanner module and up to 2,400 x 600 dpi output ensures that scans and copies are as clean as the original, while not compromising production speed. Standard in both MFP lines is the Toshiba Serial Filter, which produces crisp, sharp text and line-art, while maintaining deep black fills.

The Toshiba e-STUDIO523/603/723 and their T equivalents offer print speeds of 52, 60 and 72 pages-per-minute respectively, while the e-STUDIO853 prints at a blistering 85 pages-per-minute, ensuring efficient document output throughout the product line. All models scan at 71 scans-per-minute at 600 dpi when copying, and 83 scans-per-minute at 300 dpi when scanning to file. The e-STUDIO853 features a first-copy-out-time (FCOT) of less than 3.5 seconds, with rest of the product family close behind with a less than four second FCOT.

Incorporating Toshiba’s e-BRIDGE single-board architecture, the e-STUDIO523/603/723/853 series uses a single circuit board to control copying, printing, scanning and other functionality to decrease memory overhead and improve print time. Additionally, a dual-speed paper handling system slows down the paper while it passes through the process unit and makes up the speed elsewhere to maintain performance.

Toshiba Recognized by 2 armed services orgnizations for military personnel support

TOSHIBA AMERICA BUSINESS SOLUTIONS INC. RECOGNIZED BY TWO ARMED SERVICES NONPROFITS FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL SUPPORT
Toshiba Presented Awards from Operation Homefront and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve

Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc. (TABS) today announced that it has received recognition from both Operation Homefront, a nonprofit that provides emergency assistance and morale to the troops and their families, and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, for its support of company employees who also are reservists in the armed services.

TABS President and CEO, Rick Taylor and his executive team accepted the “Patriot Award” from ESGR and the “Operation Homefront Corporate Leadership Award” for assisting 11 of the company’s employees and their families as they were deployed for active duty. TABS employees and Army reservists, Randy Canale and Jeff Smith, aided the president and CEO of Operation Homefront, Stephen W. Harrington, Lt. Col. Kristen Cox, and ESGR award chairperson, Dr. Evelyn Robertson, in honoring TABS.

“TABS has been very supportive of my military duties and understands that citizen-soldiers are a tremendous asset to the company,” said Master Sgt. Jeff Smith, Electronic Imaging Division, TABS. “The company’s support and assistance helped me to feel secure in the well being of my family during my absence, and for that I am very grateful.”

While the 11 TABS employees were deployed for active duty, the company paid the differential between their military pay and regular civilian pay, and continued their families’ benefits.

“On behalf of our entire organization, we’d like to thank Toshiba for its dedication to its employees and to our country, through its support of our troops and their families by presenting them with the first ever ‘Operation Homefront Corporate Leadership Award,’” said Harrington. “Our nation has always been of a charitable mind both at home and abroad. That goodwill has never been more needed at home than right now. Companies like Toshiba are true leaders in helping to make a difference through their exceptional support of the families that our deployed military leave behind.”

“ESGR recognizes Toshiba as patriots for contributing to national security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force,” said Robertson, Ed.D. “For Toshiba’s leadership and support of the men and women who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve, we honor Toshiba with the ‘Patriot Award.’”

TABS is the first recipient of the “Operation Homefront Corporate Leadership Award” and was honored with ESGR’s “Patriot Award” through the nomination of a deployed employee.

Operation Homefront provides emergency assistance and morale to our troops, to the families they leave behind, and to wounded warriors when they return home. From a good idea, to a great organization, Operation Homefront understands and takes care of the needs of the military community. The e-STUDIO167/207 is the replacement of previous models, e-STUDIO165/205, while the e-STUDIO237 is a new addition to the series. The significant changes to this MFP line are the higher standard memory of 112MB, up from 48MB and the improved and more efficient duplex productivity of this reliable, user-friendly series.

"TABS' new e-STUDIO167/207/237 is an affordable and conveniently compact line which offers duplex productivity and caters to the needs of small businesses that desire a high level of image quality and reliability," said Kay Fernandez, director, Product and Solutions Marketing for TABS. "TABS continues to develop exceptional multifunction devices that accommodate the requirements of all market segments, from large corporations to small workgroups without compromising image and text quality."

The e-STUDIO167/207/237 is ideal for space-challenged business environments such as small businesses, executive offices and small workgroups that require copying and printing functionality. The e-STUDIO167/207/237 series is designed on a foundation of e-Bridge technology, and as such, it offers the advantages of digital multi-functionality and similar Printer Driver U/I with other Toshiba models. Optional network scanning capability extends the advantages of digitization to the entire office. Scan-to-Email allows scanned data to be sent directly from the MFP as an e-mail attachment, and the Scan-to-File allows sending scanned data directly to a specified folder on any computer in the network. Network scanning maximizes the benefits of digitization, making it possible to turn hard copy documents into electronic data simply and quickly. In addition, Internet faxing incurs lower charges by allowing part or all of each transmission to be sent via the Internet.

Virtually Maintenance Free

The e-STUDIO167/207/237 is a virtually “maintenance free” digital copier/printer/scanner. Its first preventive maintenance is scheduled at 72,000 impressions for the e-STUDIO167 and 90,000 for the e-STUDIO207/237. The yield of the co-packed starter toner is rated at 2,000 and the standard toner yield is 24,000 impressions. Software Solutions for Added Capabilities
The e-STUDIO167/207/237 series is equipped with several software solutions designed for increased ease of use and productivity, including:

ToshibaViewer - software enables both standard GDI printing and TWAIN compatible scanning. Toshiba Viewer also can be combined with optionally available P3Fax software to offer extended capability in the form of Direct PC Fax and more (optional fax kit required).
Top Access – The innovative TopAccess application monitors the status of the e-STUDIO167/207/237 at all times to enable up-to-the-moment management. Providing instant alerts to network computers, it informs users of the need for paper or toner replenishment to enable speedy corrective action. Allowing the creation of templates and featuring an address book, it adds speed and ease to various jobs and communications. TopAccess even supports a range of administrator-controlled features.
e-BRIDGE Viewer – When the e-STUDIO167/207/237 is connected to the network, the unique e-BRIDGE Viewer application speeds the search for documents. Highly user-friendly, it enables broad searching among all selected data stored on the computer and allows users to narrow search criteria by application, folder, date and more. e-BRIDGE Viewer then displays the first page of all target documents as a color-coded pile on the right side of the screen with the newest ones on top, allowing the user to flip through them with scrolling mouse wheel action to find the document in minimal time.

It’s imperative we enable Toshiba users to stay current with technology when and where they need it.”

With the Windows Vista upgrades, users will receive advanced network features including the IPv6 “Next Generation” Internet protocol; user management that doesn’t require the use of department codes; a new print driver user interface; image overlay in “Copy” mode for the e-STUDIO520/600/720/850 and e-STUDIO520T/600T/720T series; remote Ping and Traceroute capabilities from LCD; and a remote reboot feature via TopAccess.

The integrated Microsoft Vista support includes Web Services Print, which is integrated into devices so users can simply access the point-and-click function to easily find devices on the network when using Vista. The printing feature is upgraded with certified Vista drivers, and the Web Services Push Scan enables users to scan documents directly to the desktop via the Vista Fax and Scan Application.

For enhanced security, when users employ the Network Scanning and Scan-to-Email functions, the Secure PDF feature – which is based on Adobe Acrobat PDF security guidelines – allows them to send encrypted PDF documents that require recipients/end-users to have a password in order to access. And, the Role-Based Access feature secures devices so unauthorized users don’t have access to all machine functionalities. Network administrators actually assign functionality restrictions to employees who are only allowed access to their assigned features once entering their username and password. The transaction represents TBS’ 46th acquisition since the inception of the company’s business expansion plan, supporting the overall objective of bolstering the TBS operation by acquiring leading independent dealers in strategic markets, including Arizona.

“With the acquisition of BEG, we’re continuing to realize our strategic growth objectives in key markets, particularly Arizona – a territory that until now, TBS did not have any in-market presence,” said Wayne Wilkinson, vice president / general manager, TBS. “BEG’s strong management team and aggressive business objectives mesh seamlessly with the TBS organization, and its solid heritage and reputation in the Arizona marketplace poise us for continued success.”

The company employs 155 people under the leadership of president Phil Blake and CFO, Frank Udvare, who will each remain in their current role.

“In our highly competitive industry, clients need an office automation partner that can really grow their business and take it to the next level,” said Phil Blake, BEG president. “Toshiba has the breadth and resources that enable us to do just that, and with its focus on customer satisfaction, our companies share the same core values.
