TOSHIBA AMERICA BUSINESS SOLUTIONS INC. RECOGNIZED BY TWO ARMED SERVICES NONPROFITS FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL SUPPORT
Toshiba Presented Awards from Operation Homefront and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve
Toshiba America Business Solutions Inc. (TABS) today announced that it has received recognition from both Operation Homefront, a nonprofit that provides emergency assistance and morale to the troops and their families, and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, for its support of company employees who also are reservists in the armed services.
TABS President and CEO, Rick Taylor and his executive team accepted the “Patriot Award” from ESGR and the “Operation Homefront Corporate Leadership Award” for assisting 11 of the company’s employees and their families as they were deployed for active duty. TABS employees and Army reservists, Randy Canale and Jeff Smith, aided the president and CEO of Operation Homefront, Stephen W. Harrington, Lt. Col. Kristen Cox, and ESGR award chairperson, Dr. Evelyn Robertson, in honoring TABS.
“TABS has been very supportive of my military duties and understands that citizen-soldiers are a tremendous asset to the company,” said Master Sgt. Jeff Smith, Electronic Imaging Division, TABS. “The company’s support and assistance helped me to feel secure in the well being of my family during my absence, and for that I am very grateful.”
While the 11 TABS employees were deployed for active duty, the company paid the differential between their military pay and regular civilian pay, and continued their families’ benefits.
“On behalf of our entire organization, we’d like to thank Toshiba for its dedication to its employees and to our country, through its support of our troops and their families by presenting them with the first ever ‘Operation Homefront Corporate Leadership Award,’” said Harrington. “Our nation has always been of a charitable mind both at home and abroad. That goodwill has never been more needed at home than right now. Companies like Toshiba are true leaders in helping to make a difference through their exceptional support of the families that our deployed military leave behind.”
“ESGR recognizes Toshiba as patriots for contributing to national security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force,” said Robertson, Ed.D. “For Toshiba’s leadership and support of the men and women who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve, we honor Toshiba with the ‘Patriot Award.’”
TABS is the first recipient of the “Operation Homefront Corporate Leadership Award” and was honored with ESGR’s “Patriot Award” through the nomination of a deployed employee.
About ESGR
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense (DoD) agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain active support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve. ESGR volunteers provide free education, consultation, and if necessary, mediation for employers of guard and reserve employees. As the 1.2 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions that require extraordinary actions on the part of everyday citizens, ESGR will continue to be the informational agency for the employers of America’s new Minutemen. More information about ESGR employer outreach programs and volunteer opportunities is available at www.esgr.mil.
About Operation Homefront
What is today Operation Homefront began in 2001 as a military spouse-generated idea. In response to the shortcoming of support for the families of deployed service members, CinCHouse.com members (military wives and women in uniform) created the project that has evolved into a major nonprofit charity serving 29 states. Operation Homefront provides emergency assistance and morale to our troops, to the families they leave behind, and to wounded warriors when they return home. From a good idea, to a great organization, Operation Homefront understands and takes care of the needs of the military community. Since its inception, Operation Homefront has provided critical assistance to more than 40,000 military families in need. For additional information, please visit www.operationhomefront.net.
