WHAT IS SECTION 179?
Under Section 179, communications technology equipment, which

Toshiba America today announced the expansion of its color product line-up with the new Toshiba e-STUDIO™5530c PRO and e-STUDIO7030c PRO – two fully-featured, high-volume, color digital copiers with optional network printing, scanning and fax capabilities. Replacing the current e-STUDIO4500c/5500c models, the e-STUDIO5530c PRO at 55 pages per minute (PPM) color/60 PPM monochrome, and the e-STUDIO7030c PRO at 70 PPM color/75 PPM monochrome, provide the most powerful, high-volume, light-production color offerings available today.

“These new systems will allow Toshiba dealers to explore product marketing opportunities not previously afforded by the existing color line-up,” said Joseph Contreras, director, Product and Solutions Marketing, TABS. “Ideal for today’s budget-conscious business, the e-STUDIO7030c PRO not only offers the fastest color printing speed of any system in its class, but total cost of ownership remains in-line with comparable monochrome machines as well.”

Advanced Handling Options

While the Toshiba e-STUDIO5530c PRO and e-STUDIO7030c PRO may be single-handedly responsible for outputting brochures, booklets, flyers and publications with exceptional 600 DPI image quality, they also can simultaneously and economically handle day-to-day copy, print, scan and fax needs.
Key for many end-users will be the paper handling and finishing features. Each new Toshiba MFP has two Large Capacity Feeder (LCF) options. First is a traditional 4,000-sheet letter-size option that brings the systems’ total capacity to 7,400 sheets. The second LCF option allows for up to 2,000 sheets of paper, up to 12”x19” in size, for booklet making or any applications that require letter and legal-size together - such as many title, real estate and law firm print jobs. This is a prime differentiator between this family of products and the Toshiba e-STUDIO6530c series.
Finishing options for the e-STUDIO5530c PRO and e-STUDIO7030c PRO include: 50-sheet or 100-sheet stapling; 50-sheet with saddle stitch (booklet-making); hole punch; and Z-folding to further enhance the aesthetics of copy and print jobs. The interposer for the 100-sheet finisher option is unique because it has two input sources, thus allowing pre-printed covers and/or inserts to be merged with copied or printed pages to produce beautiful, professional looking results at the lowest possible production cost.
In addition to the standard saddle stitch option, there also is a production booklet maker for those customers with more advanced finishing demands. This feature includes greater sheet capacity, and has a trimmer option which takes prints directly from the output tray of the regular finisher and produces nicely bound books. Toner Pirates typically try to trick companies into giving out information about their copier. They mislead you into thinking you are dealing with your local copier company, or they make several calls into the business, gathering bits of information each time. Typically they will deal with employees not used to ordering supplies, or not familiar with the office machines.

Train Your Staff: Train your employees or volunteers, especially new ones & those who answer the telephone or who provide maintenance or support services. If your employees are not familiar with certain callers, advise them to say something like, "I am not authorized to order anything. You will have to speak to the person in charge of ordering supplies and get a purchase order."

Toshiba Presented Awards from Operation Homefront and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve

(TABS) today announced that it has received recognition from both Operation Homefront, a nonprofit that provides emergency assistance and morale to the troops and their families, and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, for its support of company employees who also are reservists in the armed services.

TABS President and CEO, Rick Taylor and his executive team accepted the “Patriot Award” from ESGR and the “Operation Homefront Corporate Leadership Award” for assisting 11 of the company’s employees and their families as they were deployed for active duty. TABS employees and Army reservists, Randy Canale and Jeff Smith, aided the president and CEO of Operation Homefront, Stephen W. Harrington, Lt. Col. Kristen Cox, and ESGR award chairperson, Dr. Evelyn Robertson, in honoring TABS.

The e-STUDIO520T/600T/720T features a tandem drawer configuration that expands the unit’s standard and maximum paper capacities from 2,000 to 3,500 and 6,000 to 7,600 sheets respectively. The mid-range digital machines copy at 52 pages per minute (ppm), 60 ppm and 72 ppm respectively and also offer a number of noteworthy features such as an extensive security and multiple finishing options that allow users to staple up to 100 sheets.

BLI analysts found that the e-STUDIO901 “proved to be a strong overall performer in BLI’s field testing.” Rated at Four and a Half Stars, it demonstrated outstanding overall print productivity and earned good reviews for its ease-of-use. It copies at 90 ppm and has a standard memory capacity of 256 MB that is upgradeable to 512 MB. The e-STUDIO901 is one of only two monochrome devices in the competitive group to support both color and black-and-white scanning.

The e-STUDIO3500c/3510c "proved to be competitive overall performer[s], offering excellent overall ease-of-use from its control panel and print drivers, [achieving] an overall rating of Four Stars" in BLI’s field testings. (TABS) today announced the launch of the e-STUDIO™167/207/237 multifunction product (MFP) series, featuring digital copying, printing and local TWAIN scanning functionality right out of the box. The e-STUDIO167/207 is the replacement of previous models, e-STUDIO165/205, while the e-STUDIO237 is a new addition to the series. The significant changes to this MFP line are the higher standard memory of 112MB, up from 48MB and the improved and more efficient duplex productivity of this reliable, user-friendly series.

Copier and Paper Handling Functions

The e-STUDIO167/207/237 copies at 16, 20 and 23 pages-per-minute (PPM) respectively, with a first-copy-out time of 7.5 to 7.7 seconds, and a fast warm-up time of only 25 seconds. It supports a maximum paper size of 11x17 inches (ledger), a zoom ratio range of 25-200 percent, 600 dpi image resolution, and comes standard with a single 250-sheet cassette, a 100-sheet bypass tray and 112MB of memory.

In addition, the e-STUDIO167/207/237 has several upgrade options such as a second 250-sheet cassette, a 550-Sheet Paper Feed Pedestal, and a fourth 550-sheet drawer; for a maximum paper capacity of 1,700 sheets. A Platen Cover, a 100-sheet Auto Document Feeder, or a 100-sheet Reverse Automatic Document Feeder and Auto Duplex Unit options also are available. In conformance to the energy saving standard, the e-STUDIO167/207/237 meets the Energy Star guidelines for energy efficiency. The e-STUDIO167/207/237 offers special features such Department Codes (99), standard Electronic Sort, Magazine Sort, 2-in-1 / 4-in-1/ 8-in-1 and Coin Operation support.

Print/Scan/Fax Functionality

The e-STUDIO167/207/237 print function offers users the ability to print to the unit via a standard USB GDI print driver. The imaging system offers print resolution of 2400 by 600 dpi (with Smoothing technology) and supports Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, and Windows 2003 server (32 bits only) client operating systems.

The e-STUDIO167/207/237 series is designed on a foundation of e-Bridge technology, and as such, it offers the advantages of digital multi-functionality and similar Printer Driver U/I with other Toshiba models. The optional network print capability increases business efficiency by enabling everyone in the office with easy access to advance network printing features such as N-Up printing, duplex printing, watermarks and e-Sort. In addition, it not only supports Windows OS, but it also supports Mac OS 8.6, 9.x, 10.x.

The e-STUDIO167/207/237 comes standard with local TWAIN scanning, making digital document management affordable and easy to manage, and it can scan up to 600 dots per inch (dpi) resolution (default is 300 dpi). Optional network scanning capability extends the advantages of digitization to the entire office. Scan-to-Email allows scanned data to be sent directly from the MFP as an e-mail attachment, and the Scan-to-File allows sending scanned data directly to a specified folder on any computer in the network. Network scanning maximizes the benefits of digitization, making it possible to turn hard copy documents into electronic data simply and quickly. Electronic data also saves space when compared to the storage of hard copy documents and offers the further advantage of being immune to deterioration.

The e-STUDIO167/207/237 offers powerful fax functionality with the optional Walk-Up fax, PC/LAN Faxing and Internet Fax capabilities. The optional fax kit comes with G3 33.6Kbps and JBIG compression technology for increased transmission speeds and superior image quality. Faxing capability is further accelerated with 75 one-touch dial buttons in the separated fax group controls and the ability to register a total of 300 abbreviated dial numbers. Fax productivity also is enhanced with network faxing which lets you send and receive faxes directly from your desktop. In addition, Internet faxing incurs lower charges by allowing part or all of each transmission to be sent via the Internet.

Virtually Maintenance Free

The e-STUDIO167/207/237 is a virtually “maintenance free” digital copier/printer/scanner. Its first preventive maintenance is scheduled at 72,000 impressions for the e-STUDIO167 and 90,000 for the e-STUDIO207/237. The yield of the co-packed starter toner is rated at 2,000 and the standard toner yield is 24,000 impressions. The toner is user replaceable, which allows the user to quickly and easily change the toner cartridge, thereby saving valuable machine downtime.

Software Solutions for Added Capabilities
The e-STUDIO167/207/237 series is equipped with several software solutions designed for increased ease of use and productivity, including:

ToshibaViewer - software enables both standard GDI printing and TWAIN compatible scanning. Toshiba Viewer also can be combined with optionally available P3Fax software to offer extended capability in the form of Direct PC Fax and more (optional fax kit required).
Top Access – The innovative TopAccess application monitors the status of the e-STUDIO167/207/237 at all times to enable up-to-the-moment management. Providing instant alerts to network computers, it informs users of the need for paper or toner replenishment to enable speedy corrective action. Allowing the creation of templates and featuring an address book, it adds speed and ease to various jobs and communications. TopAccess even supports a range of administrator-controlled features.
e-BRIDGE Viewer – When the e-STUDIO167/207/237 is connected to the network, the unique e-BRIDGE Viewer application speeds the search for documents. Highly user-friendly, it enables broad searching among all selected data stored on the computer and allows users to narrow search criteria by application, folder, date and more. e-BRIDGE Viewer then displays the first page of all target documents as a color-coded pile on the right side of the screen with the newest ones on top, allowing the user to flip through them with scrolling mouse wheel action to find the document in minimal time.

With its 2,400 dpi image quality mode, the e-STUDIO360CP uses enhanced halftone-screening methods for improved quality over standard 600 dpi output. Ideal for corporate environments that have high volume color workgroups with ledger printing needs, the e-STUDIO360CP will begin shipping in late June.

e-STUDIO3510c

Designed for color-intensive workgroups, the e-STUDIO3510c multifunction product (MFP) offers similar running costs, performance and the same functionality as black and white multifunction systems, with a minimum hardware price premium. The e-STUDIO3510c features color output speeds of 35 PPM and monochrome output speeds of an impressive 45 PPM.

Other noteworthy features include a 99-second warm-up time, a color first copy out time (FCOT) of just 8.6 seconds, true 600 x 600 dpi output and the latest Fiery® technology. The e-STUDIO3510c will be available in August.

e-STUDIO190F

Designed for medium to large workgroups, Toshiba’s e-STUDIO190F is a versatile multifunction facsimile system with print and scan functionality. Offering speed, versatility and reliability, the e-STUDIO190F has a 2.7 second transmission speed, scans at an ultra-fast speed of just 0.7 seconds and prints at a rate of 19 PPM. A large-capacity 100-sheet document feeder, simple print driver installation, a user-friendly graphical interface and status monitoring all contribute to the e-STUDIO190F’s ease of use. The e-STUDIO190F will be offered beginning in September.

e-STUDIO4500c/5500c

The powerful e-STUDIO4500c and 5500c MFPs are highly productive, cost-effective devices capable of outputting color documents at rates of 45 and 55 PPM respectively or 60 PPM for monochrome documents. Designed to reduce outsourcing expenses and eliminate costs associated with supporting the multitude of low-volume color printers installed across the organization, the e-STUDIO4500c/5500c series is ideal for high-volume or print-for-pay environments.

True 600 dpi scanning and printing produces superior image quality, while a number of color calibration and registration technologies ensure sharp, consistent results so every page always looks its best. In addition, an enormous 7,400-sheet maximum paper capacity, a FCOT of 7.5 seconds in color and 6.5 seconds in black and white, and numerous security options make the e-STUDIO4500c and 5500c dependable assets for fast production of any business color application. TABS will be launching the e-STUDIO4500c/5500c in October.

e-STUDIO901/1101/1351

The e-STUDIO901, 1101 and 1351 are fully featured high-volume monochrome digital copiers with optional network printing and scanning capabilities. These 90, 110 and 135 PPM models respectively bring three of the industry’s strongest Segment 5 and 6 offerings to the market.

The 1,200 dpi resolution, advanced paper handling options and impressive monthly copy volumes will enable these models to satisfy the needs of the busiest departmental office users, print-on-demand customers and start-up production environments. In addition, a copy data security kit and a data overwrite security system option will meet the requirements of today’s most demanding, security conscious environments. The e-STUDIO901/1101/1351 series will be available in October.

e-STUDIO520T/600T/720T Tandem Drawer Configuration

The e-STUDIO520T/600T/720T Tandem Drawer Configuration series shares the same base specifications as the highly successful and award-winning e-STUDIO520/600/720 series, with the addition of a new drawer configuration, providing an impressive 7,600-sheet paper capacity. The devices include a standard 2,500-sheet tandem large capacity feeder (LCF), two 500-sheet universal drawers and a 100-sheet universal bypass, with the option of an external 4,000-sheet LCF.

Other highlights of the e-STUDIO520T/600T/720T Tandem Drawer Configuration series include print speeds of 52, 60 and 72 PPM respectively, 2,400 x 600 dpi output, e-BRIDGE single-board architecture and several advanced security options. Embedded eCopy

The embedded eCopy solution provides the same functionality as the external eCopy ScanStation screen, with an easy-to-use interface operated from the MFP’s control panel. Users can control many MFPs with only one server, reducing costs and equipment installation. The easy-to-use interface of the embedded eCopy is perfect for an office workgroup environment and delivers documents securely to the correct network destination or any e-mail address selected from an address book. Secure ID Card Authentication

Secure ID Card Authentication will soon be offered on all Toshiba e-BRIDGE-based MFPs allowing for quick authentication and eliminating the need to manually log-in at the device. Designed with the utmost security in mind, all 12 of Toshiba's certified products feature an available Data Overwrite Kit to completely overwrite and erase all copy, print, scan and fax data that is temporarily written to the hard disk during job processing. For optimal efficiency, the co-packed starter toner yield is rated at 5,900 impressions and the regular toner yield is rated at 24,000 impressions.

The e-STUDIO165 and 205 copy at 16 and 20 pages per minute (PPM) respectively with a first copy out time (FCOT) of 7.7 seconds and a fast warm-up time of 25 seconds. The series supports a maximum paper size of 11 inches by 17 inches (ledger), a zoom ratio range of 25 to 200 percent and 2,400 x 600 dpi image resolution. The e-STUDIO165/205 series’ print function gives users the ability to print to the unit via a standard USB GDI print driver. In addition, supported by a 333 MHz processor and 128MB of RAM memory, optional network print capabilities increase business efficiency by giving users easy access to advanced network printing features such as N-Up printing, duplex printing, watermarks, and eSort.

The e-STUDIO165/205 also comes standard with local TWAIN scanning, making digital document management affordable and easy to administer. Both devices can scan up to 600 dpi resolution, with a default of 300 dpi. Optional network scanning capabilities extend the advantages of digitization to the entire office, making it possible to turn hard copy documents into electronic data simply and quickly. The optional fax kit comes with a super fast G3 33.6Kbps and JBIG compression technology for increased transmission speeds and superior image quality. Faxing capability is further accelerated with 75 one-touch dial buttons and the ability to register a total of 300 abbreviated dial numbers. Software Solutions for Added Capabilities

Toshiba Viewer – This software enables both standard GDI printing and TWAIN compatible scanning, and also can be combined with the optional ImageVision software to offer extended capabilities such as direct PC fax.
Top Access – This application monitors the status of the device to enable up-to-the-moment management. Providing instant alerts to networked computers, it informs the administrator of the need for paper or toner replenishment to enable speedy corrective action. TopAccess supports a range of other administrator-controlled features, adding speed and ease to various jobs and communications.
e-BRIDGE Viewer – When the e-STUDIO165 and 205 are connected to the network, the unique e-BRIDGE Viewer application speeds the search for documents. Highly user friendly, it enables broad searching among all selected data stored on the PC and allows users to narrow search criteria by application, folder, date, and more.

(TABS) today donated an e-STUDIO™202L multifunction product (MFP) valued at nearly $14,000 to Partners for Healing clinic (PFH) in Tullahoma, Tenn., as part of “Live with Regis and Kelly’s” 16th annual “Mom’s Dream Come True” special. Five extraordinary women were honored on the program, “Live’s” annual Mother’s Day tradition. The donation, which was spurred by a letter to show producers by the daughter of PFH’s founder, will enable the clinic to outfit its office with the latest technology designed to make document management more efficient for the facility’s growing patient base.

Designed to replace the e-STUDIO400P, the e-STUDIO500P offers faster processor and print speeds, increased memory and a higher duty cycle, making it ideal for large workgroups with high volume printing requirements.

Performance and Productivity

Powered by a robust 514 MHz processor, the e-STUDIO500P produces an impressive 50 pages per minute (PPM) with a fast 8.5-second first print out time. A duty cycle of up to 250,000 pages per month, combined with support for a large variety of operating systems, ensures a productive output environment that can handle almost any job. In addition, the e-STUDIO500P comes standard with 128MB of RAM, which can be expanded to a maximum 640MB of RAM.

Connectivity for Enhanced Mobility

The e-STUDIO500P offers several connectivity options for enhanced business productivity. As Toshiba’s first printer to feature Direct USB printing capability, users can print PDF files directly from the control panel. Users simply insert a USB memory drive into the front USB port and select the file to be printed. Mobile users no longer need to connect their computer directly to the printer, allowing for fast, efficient printing.

In addition to the standard 10/100BaseT network connection, parallel and USB port, the e-STUDIO500P also offers an 802.11g (Wi-Fi) wireless option, further enhancing printing productivity and mobility. With the wireless option, Toshiba has eliminated cumbersome wires and made it quick and easy for mobile users to gain access to printers whenever necessary, without having to worry about locating an open network connection or printer cable.

Paper Handling Features

In high-volume printing environments, users require a large paper capacity to handle high-demand output requirements. With this in mind, the e-STUDIO500P has been designed with an input capacity of a remarkable 4,100 sheets, including both letter and legal-size paper. The e-STUDIO500P comes standard with one 500-sheet drawer and a 100-sheet bypass, and offers the option for three additional 500-sheet drawers and a 2,000-sheet drawer. For office environments requiring envelope printing, the e-STUDIO500P offers an optional envelope feeder that simplifies the process of printing envelopes in large quantities.

The design of the control panel benefits users by decreasing the number of keystrokes required when making a selection, and the layout offers more space between icons so users do not accidentally select the wrong feature. Virtually Maintenance Free Design

With its first preventative maintenance (PM) scheduled at 72,000 impressions, the e-STUDIO163 is virtually maintenance free. In addition, the toner is user replaceable, allowing users to quickly and easily change the toner cartridge, thereby ensuring maximum machine uptime. For optimal efficiency, the co-packed starter toner yield is rated at 5,900 impressions and the regular toner yield is rated at 24,000 impressions.

Copy/Print/Scan Functionality

The new e-STUDIO163 copies at 16 pages per minute (PPM) with a first copy out time (FCOT) of 7.6 seconds and a fast warm-up time of 25 seconds. It supports a maximum paper size of 11 inches by 17 inches (ledger), a zoom ratio range of 25 percent to 200 percent and 600 dpi image resolution. The e-STUDIO163 comes standard with a single 250-sheet cassette and a 100-sheet bypass tray, with available upgrades including a second 250-sheet cassette, a platen cover, 64MB additional memory or a 100-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF). The system also offers special features such as access control, AMS/APS (with optional ADF), coin operation support and electronic sort (with optional 64MB memory).

The e-STUDIO163 print function gives users the ability to print to the unit via a standard USB GDI print driver. The device also comes standard with local TWAIN scanning, making digital document management affordable and easy to administer. The e-STUDIO163 supports Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP and Windows 2003 server (64bits only) client operating systems.

Compact Size

With an extremely small footprint, the e-STUDIO163 is well suited for locations where space is limited and functional versatility is required. The central output tray design eliminates the additional space needed with an external hanging output tray. The e-STUDIO352/452 series offers next generation e-BRIDGE technology, advanced networking features, a fast processor, excellent image quality and comprehensive device management capabilities. With a modular, build-to-order design, customers can configure a device based upon functional and paper handling requirements, choosing options to create a custom device ranging from a stand-alone copier to a fully integrated copier, printer, scanner, and facsimile.

Next Generation e-BRIDGE Technology

The e-STUDIO352/452 series is built on Toshiba’s second-generation e-BRIDGE architecture, which builds networking capabilities into the core design of the device to deliver Internet-ready, mobile/wireless-ready, and solution-ready technology. A new hardware design boasts efficiencies in image processing by sharing system resources to complete an increased number of tasks in a shorter period of time. Toshiba’s e-BRIDGE products support the seamless communication and integration of Toshiba MFPs into many existing business document workflows and IT infrastructures.

One of the most notable features found standard on all e-BRIDGE enabled e-STUDIO products is e-FILING. The e-FILING function offers 200 private user mailboxes and one public box. Users can create individual password protected mailboxes and input documents into the box via scanning, printing from the desktop, fax, or Internet fax. The public box is accessible only by the administrator and offers storage of frequently requested documents, such as HR forms, or corporate documents and policies. This allows users to print all documents on demand, thereby saving paper and storage space.

Copy and Print Capabilities

The e-STUDIO352/452 series features document output speeds of 35 and 45 pages per minute (PPM) respectively. Other standard features include 2400 x 600 dpi resolution, trayless duplexing, two large 550-sheet cassettes, and an additional 100-sheet stack feed bypass to accommodate special and heavier stock papers.

By upgrading the e-STUDIO352/452 series with printing capabilities, users add parallel and network cross-platform printing supporting Windows, Unix, and Macintosh operating systems over a wide variety of common network protocols. Standard printer languages include PCL 6® and PostScript™ 3, combined with a sizeable 40GB hard disk drive to process large print jobs and support advanced print features. These features facilitate business requirements outside of many standard stand-alone printers, including professional finishing options such as hole punching, stapling, duplexing and booklet making.

Scan and Fax Functionality

Users also can configure the e-STUDIO352/452 series to function as a robust network-scanning device capable of scanning up to 50 originals per minute with user selectable resolutions up to 600 dpi. The series supports dual-sided scanning, mixed original scanning and continuous scanning up to 1,000 pages. Integrating the e-STUDIO352/452’s scanning feature into an organization’s workflow when coupled with a document management software solution provides complete digitization of all hard copy documents with easy storage and retrieval capabilities.

In addition to printing and scanning, the Toshiba e-STUDIO352/452 series offers fast 33.6 Kbps walk-up faxing, network faxing, and Internet faxing, yielding scan speeds of 0.7 seconds per page and transmission speeds of three seconds per page. In addition, the e-STUDIO352/452 series outputs facsimiles at 45 PPM.

The e-STUDIO352/452 also offers a Scan Once Copy Many feature, which reduces wear and tear on the Reversing Automatic Document Feeder (RADF). Furthermore, the e-STUDIO352 has a monthly duty cycle of 120,000, while the e-STUDIO452 offers a monthly copy volume of up to 150,000.
